Before that Mountain lion was killed in Lincoln Park/Wrgleyville, I would have laughed at these sightings. In the last 8 years running trail cameras in Lake County, I've gotten two on camera. One was pretty funny because I was checking a camera with my dad and we were taken back by it. We've hunted many times out west and seen them and couldn't believe we got one on camera let alone in Illinois. 2 days later, the news starts reporting that a mountain lion was reported in the Libertyville/Lake Forest area. Most likely just a juvenile male looking to establish a new territory.

While this could be a mountain Lion, it could be a bobcat as well. They sure are making a comeback in Illinois. I also love how they are putting out trail cameras, the odds of catching it on camera are 1000 to 1 but they could get lucky I guess.

They already have mountain lions in S. Illinois. I've talked to land managers down there that run some of the old coal mines with all the coal spoils and they say they have no doubt they are there. No one wants to have it proven though because then they will get more people trying to drive through the area trying to spot these cats.

I have a feeling if this was a big cat, it will be gone in a matter of a day or two, they aren't going to stick around this area.

You can clearly see a dark shaped canine looking creature chasing that deer in the background.

I tried to trap a cougar once, I set out a nice bottle of Merlot and put on a Barry Manilow CD. No luck however.

Remember how it worked out for Tom Cruise in Cocktail?

Coughlin's Law: Bury the dead. They stink up the joint. As for the rest of Coughlin's Laws, ignore them. The guy was always full of s**t.
