This is going to be the first winter I plan on fishing all winter when possible on the big lake. What is the easiest way to find out if you can launch? Is it just launch at your own risk or will they close the ramps? Do you simply call? I am only concerned with East Chicago and Hammond. Thanks for helping a newbie out.

If your going on the south end may consider Cal Park as well. That launch stays ice free longer.

That video sure brings back memories of heading to inland steel for early season brown trout fishing. He's right Paul about calpark launch staying open longest,no matter if it is windy or calm there is always some wave action keeping the water moving.Just bring a bag of salt to get up the ramp,it sure saved me last week.
