That's right, a Walleye. I still can't believe it myself! 23" and very clean looking. Got it on a Brown & Orange Rapala Crank

That is way cool! Were you fishing from the bridge? Some day I would love to take my boat out there. A 23" Walleye in the Chicago River? You never know what you might catch in there. Wow, Mayor Richard J Daily would be so proud! He perdicted that the people of Chicago would some day be able to fish in the chicago river, on their lunch break and catch a nice healthy fish. God bless Mayor Richard J Daily.

Not much to tell. I was throwing a crank for smallies from the river walk. It hit pretty hard, I thought it was a smallie at first. Once I got it to the wall I had to be very careful pulling it up the wall and over the railing (Its like 8 to 10 Ft.) Once I got it over the railing I saw a couple guys walking on the bridge and ran up with the fish and asked them to shoot a Pic with my phone.

Fat, Awesome catch and release! I have seen several walley caught along the lake front in the past 3 years. Most have been kept quiet to avoid the onslaught of fishermen targeting them. I have said for years that they would move this way. I know one person who consistantly targets them on the southside in the lake ( Trolling ) and does well. They are still a few and far between fish but are picking up steam. I always said they should start a stocking program and LM could become the walleye factory that Erie is. Last one I saw was a solid 25 inch and had to be harvested because of gill injuries it would have died. Moving into the river is a great sign! It won't be long and you will see regular posts about walleye. As of now I have caught Salmon, trout, perch, northern, catfish, gills, large mouth, small mouth and crappie out of the lake from Montrose to North Point. I have personally seen eyes come out of Montrose. The lake is a great fishery and will hopefully get even better. I wish that they would do a massive stocking of the Herring which used to be abundant many years ago. That would be a great food base for the fish.
Again great catch!

Great catch, FAT. I live a couple of blocks away and know what a great place to fish that is. It's a great place to relax for me after work. Years ago, I used to go fishing for carp for kicks with my father when he was a project engineer on the LSD extension. I agree with you on the 3rd eye. In the early 20th Century up to the 50's, a lot of manufacturing companies lined the area near DuSable. they used to dump a lot of waste into the river. One of them was a light bulb and battery factory as I recall. There are areas in Streeterville that you can walk around with a geiger counter and get high radioactivity readings.

Fishnfacts. The problem with a stocking program on LM is we have the smallest chunk of the lake and the DNR is not going to do any without a effort from surrounding states. Restocking monies are at there limit already. Its awsome that a eye was caught in the river and yes there are walleyes in Lake Mich. Is there more? yes I belive there is. Is there a sustained fishery for them? no. The fish are moveing thru, migrateing. If we had a river that feed the lake a stocking program might work. Nice job on the fish!!!!!
