I have never really targeted them but I fish the fox alot. I have caught afew by accident and they were right up in the spillway and I mean right up in it. I have also seen some guys get some big ones right up in the dam. Hope this helps. Let us know if you get any.

The answer is yes. Have a head lamp with you.

Be mindful of the cops around the batavia dam. There is an area near the retirement home that says (Stay on path) so walk the bank.

Park legally, no forest preserves etc.

you have half right, most flats are caught on live bait, but night time fishing is not required. It is more important that you understand the seasonal, and daily movements. Part of the reason that people say fish at night is because flats move from one area to another (at dusk) "a feed route" and return (predawn), which explains why alot of fisherman say the bite was good till 11 and then dead till about 4am when it picked back up. Flatheads are also more of an ambush predator, with that in mind look for structure, trees, rootballs, rock/concrete areas. Water temp is another big thing to watch.

So whats the temp.range for thesr fish? I read somewhere that fall time is when they school together for winter and they would be more active at this time. Im heading out to geneva/batavia area saturday night for some shore fishing. Anyone have some parking spots that are legal overnight? These tips are helping guys, really apprecite it, hoping to catch something worth wild in these waters. Fish on

Honestly in those areas you should be safe for most parking.

Cats might school up in fall for wintering however they search for food more actively during the dog days of summer. At least that is what I understand.

I just say give it a shot, what do you have to lose?

Is the batavia dam by a police station with the bike path in between? Sorry for all these questions, just trying to have a successful time when I go.

BTW.

Went to this area yesterday. There is barely water flowing over the dam. Water level is very very low.

The only flow is from the extreme outer edges...

Yeah we found that out when we got there and decided to try anyways. We actually ended up I believe in the Aurora area. My two cousins and I fished from about 6 to 11 pm with what we thought were bites. We used bluegill and had chicken livers also on hand. No fish though. Alot harder than we thought. I think we are more determined to find one now. Its just a matter of when and how. Just going to fall back on research in the meantime. Thanks for all of your guys help tho. Better than going in blind. :-)

CATMAN

Though I was wading (In some times above waist water) I did not get a water temp. 600 Gram Neos and the water was very comfortable. I hope that helps.

When we were there the water was a little colder than warmer if that helps. We saw a few decent what we thought were bass with our headlights but not our target. The aurora police also didnt pay any attention to us.

That is because it is legal.

The water temps are around 64 degrees. Give or take.

I think we are going to try again saturday night to sunday. Maybe move more north this time. Try to find some deeper waters.
