Well, I was going to hit the creeks in Indiana today, but heard that they were iced up pretty bad, so I decided to head up to the root in hope of finding some open water given that the river is faster and wider.
Well when I got there I saw that the downstream areas were locked up pretty tight! So I headed up to quarry park where I had originally planned to start. I was drifting spawn and had very limited areas to drift as most of the deep sections were under ice
I did find one nice hole that i was able to work good and had my float shoot under sideways twice, but nobody was home. Oh well.
Here are some shots of the river.

I walked the river all the way up to the dam and then hiked all the way back to the park. The water was gin clear and dangerous as the ice would break away on you if you were not careful! I had figured that I might run into the ice problem so I figured my second best chance of hooking up with a fish would be Kenosha.
I headed down to K-town and when I arrived I found that the south winds had blown all the pack ice up into the channel behind the hotel just north of the stubby pier. I set-up on the South side and ran some spawn under a float and was casting cranks. With the water clarity, my choice was the Deep Husky Jerk in Clown. There were several fish moving and after about 45 minutes I hooked up with this nice fresh brown.

The gentleman next to me was nice enough to net him as I had forgotten my longer net  I kept at it with another bump and the gentleman next to me hooked up with a nice brown and a steelie both on spawn sacks. I hooked up with another brown on the Husky jerk that just hammered it close to the wall! After a short battle when the gentleman went to net it his net was tangled on itself and he ended up catching the hooks on the bait and missed the fish. The fish pulled free and away he swam. Oh well, that fish just missed an opportunity to be on film! LOL.
I went two for two and had a nice day enjoying some time on soft water. Oh boy I can't wait for spring!

Oh and my bait of choice!

Nice Cory. I was supposed to head up there this morning, but my pillow felt extra comfortable. Question: Were there people on the ice in the small boat harbor?

Didn't check.
Sorry. I was more concerned with soft water than the hard stuff!

Gotta love them Kenosha browns. I've got some Wisconsin browns in my photobucket not approved for posting pictures that I have posted on "the other sites", but for some reason I can not figure how to put them up on this site. Would love to add reports with pictures on this site, but it always tells me "GENERAL ERROR" when I try to post a picture here. :?

Thanks Larry,
Yea the browns I got were nice and fresh. There were fish moving when I first got there and There were some guys way down the way toward the mouth that were fishing tube jigs on the bottom and they had 5 fish so I think a fresh push of fish have come into the harbor.
I was going to head out today, but other plans came up. Now I work the next 4 days, but by the time I am fishing again I belive I will be hitting Indiana for some steel!

Thanks!
Rogerspark, That river is only as dangerous as you make it. It is not very deep, but one wrong move and you are going down hard and could slip under that ice.
I went thru many times that day and still have problems with my knee!
It's hell getting old! or older!

Love those pictures Cory. Next warm snap and I'll bet it will look like time to hit the river for some steelies.

Let me know Tom,
Maybe I'll get another steel for you to do and this one would go on a pedastal, maybe with a brown.
