Wow, that's some good info. I registered and can hardly wait to pour over the data.

I like that pic of the bowfin too. I got 7 of those this year at the Des Plaines Conservation Area backwaters.

never fished the river but we hunt these dinosaurs all summer long on inland lakes. we go out between 10 pm to 1 am. ... we bring spotlights for shining, a bow for the carp, and some heavy duty poles for the GAR.
look for the red glowing eyes at the surface.

Just use chicken livers under a bobber or on the bottom. They are usually on the surface so try fishing a foot below the bobber...

I wanted to reply to this as i was on the Des Plaines last night. I launched out of big basin and went up towards Joliet and found hundreds of Gar at the surface in 80 degree water as it was flowing out of some plant. Just go towards joliet and you will see what i mean. I look for bass and those damn things are always there. Just wanted you to know. If you cant catch them there then you really should give up fishing. they are everywhere, at this location, all the time. I hate em. Go have fun. Let me know how you do. Go Packers. :crazy

i don't think you can fish it from shore. thick vegetation and cliff walls. Get that boat ready. I was there again this a.m. and the those thing were damn near jumping in the boat. They surface all the time. Its right before the damn on the left as your going up river towards joliet. While entering the area stay on your right though as a point comes out under water. If you have electronics you will see what i mean. Enjoy and please let me know.
