Just a quick second to remember the 29 that died his day 41 years ago in the wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald. RIP men and boys and my prayers to the families involved.

I will never forget the night.
The John G. Munson, a 750 foot similar ore carrier, was in to our dock in Buffington that night. It left our dock late in the afternoon after offloading its lading of high calcium pebble limestone. On its way back up the lake they took to the western shoreline so as to stave off the beast a bit but when they were just off the Milwaukee shore, the ship was hit by a wave that spun the 750 footer around, tossing most all aboard out of their bunks and onto the floor of the ship.
It was an experience none of the crew would talk about to me upon their return to Buffington a week later

"The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive yet obtainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope." John Buchan
