Has anyone ever changed out a minn Kota trolling motor shaft? I'm thinking about buying a longer shaft so when its rough out my motor can be set lower. Any thoughts? Should I try for a longer one or just buy a corvette!?!?!? :rotflmao :bigyuck

I had my trolling motor deploy doing about 50mph and shattered the shaft. I took it to Fran at Lees bait and did a great job and the repair and pretty cheap also. i would call him and ask him what he thinks. He also helped me run my transducer cable down the shaft. Awesome dude to deal with

I've done it. Hardest part is removing the old shaft. It's threaded and epoxied to the motor. Need to heat it and wrench on it. Once you remove it the threads on the motor need to be cleaned. I used a shotgun cleaning bore brush on the end of a drill. Two part epoxy on end of shaft and screw it on. If you're making it longer then the wires will have to be lengthened. Cheapest Minn Kota shaft I found was at a Bowfishing supply. It was 80 inches long. Easily cut to any length with a hacksaw. If you're interested I can try to find the supplier of that shaft.

Here's where to get a shaft at reasonable price. They also have extension wire kits.

Here's a video on replacing the shaft.
