Ok so I'm a nerd.

Got to the river this morning around 530. Water was high as expected but less so than feared. Setup next to some fast water hoping for some eyes.
My buddy and I started throwing various lures. About thirty minutes in I was throwing a beetle spin with a white curlytail grub when BAM! "Hmm hooked a rock" Nope the rock started pulling back HARD! Never did get a look at it before it came unbuttoned. Took awhile to get over that one. I started floating a minnow under a bobber running it from the current into some slackwater and hooked into a little 17" eye.

He put up a nice little fight but I can't help but think about the one that got away. It felt SO much better.

After awhile mr nsselle joined us. I'll have to let him tell you what he was throwing but he did catch a nice Smallie (I didn't get a pic) and a sweet little Pike AND a sheepshead(?) He was the big fisherman of the day.
Nick with his pike.

After that it pretty much shutdown for us. We moved to a little pond to end the day and got pep~ 'ed. Seemed like the NE wind picked up fairly early on and maybe caused a little lockjaw. It was a slow but fun day. I'm thinking of hitting it early in the morning for a couple hours. I'll post.

Nice walleye. Sometimes the days with least expectations turn out to good ones. Pretty good northern too.

Thank for the report Dennis , had a great time wish I could get out more often but I have one little problem called work! Was a good day to be out, for the most part we were blocked from the wind while on the river. Caught that little pike on a blue husky jerk with a very slow retrieve, thought it was a decent walleye for a second. Got a 2-3lb smallie on a white twister tail tipped with a minnow, man did she hammer the bait, good fight for sure. Wind was a different story when we got to the pond. Good Luck if you get out in the next few days Dennis!

Dajord,

Yes a few of us Cubs fan do get out and do a little fishing, LOL (I said fishing not catching). By mid-day I was ready to go to the bar with MY WIFE and drink my high class beer called BUSCH LIGHT! My hands were freezin from the wind out there.

Walleye eat funyuns? Nice catches. With the river so high it had to be a challenge to find 'em.

I love the little slash baits at this time of year. 8)~ That's a quality river pike anytime! Don't listen to dajord about "Cubs Fan stuff" He's clearly confused.

Nice Walleye too by the way, dylanapollo!

 Thought if you're going to drink, that's the kind company you would want to be with? :P

Hey dylanapollo,

Glad you had decent morning. About where were you fishing, north of Algonquin?
