Well I had the day off and it was my birthday to boot. With all this cool weather I agonized over weather to fish the big pond for some big fins or hit the river and chase some smallies. Time, distance, a traffic report (not to mention my past track record this season fishing for Salmon) shaped my choice. I opted to hit the fox again, and was glad I did. I was fishing the usual 6 lb. Trilene XL clear, single split shot and minnow bouncing off the bottom. I landed about 10 smallmouth and lost at least that many more (truth be told I actually lost count) The fish were again aggressive, scrappy and chunky. They are definitely gorging for winter.
I attached a couple pics of the chunkier ones.

As a bonus I tangled with 3 very nice Northerns. Unfortunately, these Pike were not happy about posing for pictures. One guy about 20” broke me off right before I grabbed him. Funny thing, I caught him again within the next couple casts and again while I was trying to grab him he broke me off again. Dang! I knew it was the same one because I could actually see my first hook still in his mouth.

The next one was even bigger. I guesstimate closer to 30” I opted to play this one to the shore to try and get my hands on him to avoid lifting him and breaking off again. I got him there and I swear I was within two inches of grabbing him and I be danged he broke me off again and shot back out into the river. Grrrrr!

Guess it would have been a miracle to land one of the big guys with such light line. Still what an epic battle and tons of fun to try and land. No pictures to show for it but I never forget the experience. I cant think of a better birthday present to myself then three or four hours of fishing the Fox.

Nice report. Happy B-Day!

We should hook up on the Fox sometime. I have mainly fished Geneva down to North Aurora.

Thanks guys. I love Wading. It Don't matter if I catch em or not. The river is my little piece of paradise. The sound of gurgling water is soothing to my soul. It clears out the cobwebs of my mind. It makes a complicated world seem.. well.. not so complicated. Cant think of a better way to spend some precious me time.
