Another post on the creek board got me thinking about drift boats & the Fox. I think it would be a hoot to fish the Fox from a drift boat (esp the lower Fox). We use drift boats a lot more in Michigan (the pic below is from the Pere Marquette River).

Anyone ever use a drift boat on the Fox?

Not I. Can't say that I've ever seen one on the Fox. Where were ya thinking of putting in at?

Not sure. Some where on the lower Fox. I think it would be a cool way to fish the Fox. You have very little draft (I would imaging less than even a canoe). Can't say that I ever saw one when I lived in Illinois. It is a much more popular way to fish some of the trout rivers in Michigan (river that are smaller than the Fox). They use them a lot out West too.

Came accross this pic and saved it some time ago (I think it is Steve's from Baldwin Bait & Tackle on the Pere Marquette River).

BTW: this is guide Kevin Morlock/Indigo Guide Sevice (of In-fisherman fame) with my son Garrett on the Pere Marquette River.

I guess, if I use their pics, I should give them credit.

I just got thinking about my days on the Fox and thought a drift boat would be perfect and was just curious if anyone has ever tried it. If I can dig up any more drift boat pics, I'll post them.

Thanks, Russ

My brother (another PM trip) - you can get a good sense of the draft (or lack there of)...

My home state is Oregon, drift boats are used all the time to fish the chinook run, and steelhead run in winter.

I've had a few drift boat rides over the years and the one thing you need that they have on the Michigan side is flow volume. I float the yorkville section alot and there is way to much dead water for a drift boat thats why everyone floats canoe.
