A couple of nice firsts for me on the Fox River this past weekend.

I hired Brandyn to guide me for a try at a Fox River Musky, and after about an hour or so on the water, three canoes appear out of nowhere. A woman and her boyfriend are having a great time in the lead canoe, and out of the blue she tells us her girlfriends want to flash us.

So we wait for them to drift by, and I say "hey, we were promised a little somthin'-somethin' from your partner up there". Sure enough, not one but two of the women in the other canoes proceed to flip up their tops and give us a nice little show! Never seen that one on the water (well, Fox Chain maybe).

Oh, and about that musky...not too long after, I hooked a nice 38" fish on a glide bait.

Lure popped out just as we got it into the net. A quick measure and then right back into the water. Very exciting!

Water temps were low-mid 70's for the entire day. Beautiful day to be out on the Fox. Brandyn did a fantastic job, and I sure hope to get out a few more times this year!

Nice job, John! We were on the water for a little more than 5 hours with not a cloud in the sky for a while. The window was from 1:39 until 3:39, so I wanted to be in a spot we could possibly intercept a feeding fish. Johns fish hit at 1:39. How cool is that? Its all gravy when the right calls are made on the water! The fish came from a stretch not a lot of people fish and was the 7th first Fox Muskie I have been a part of. We fished a complex of shallow flats, timber, a small inflow, and current breaks. Only people we saw out were fishing for carp or canoeing. Girls Gone Wild was apparently out as well, which is always a plus!

Other than the Musky and the girls, there was not much other action. Sorry but we didn't snap any photos of the girls.

It did have some kind of funny duck-bill think going on with the upper lip. Also had a pretty big gash on the top of it's head.

River life is pretty tough. If you put a musky in a fish tank, the upper lip can become deformed like the one pictured. It happens quite often. If anyone has been to the Bass Pro Shops in Bollingbrook, they use to have a pretty large musky with this type of deformation. Some say this happens from the fish hitting its nose on the glass. I would think the same could happen to a muskie running into boulders or falling over the dams. Not exactly sure. Out over 100 fish I've seen on the Fox over the years, this was the 3rd I've seen with this type of upper jaw. Kinda looks like the fish is smilling eh? :D

Nice job Brandyn and Chicarp. I happened to be wading across the river the other day and saw Brandyn and his partner releasing a beauty. Brandyn is definitly the guy to go to for your first Fox River ski. It seems everytime I run into him he always has a least one in the boat 8)

Brandyn, You got it going ON!!! How long have you had that boat? BATAVIA? There are no Muskies that ugly in BATAVIA JMazur6. All our fish have teeth, at least the ones that get released still do.

Now that's what I call a great day on the water. We know how big the fish was, but what about the buoys?
