We tried out the Fox by Yorkville Dam. We did not have any success. We tried multiple lures from plastic worms to spinnerbaits. Are we missing something or are there better areas to hit smallies near Yorkville, Montgomery, or Aurora? Any help would greatly be appreciated since this was our first time on the river? We are shore fishing as well. Thanks!

Welcome to the site.
When targeting Fox River smallies back in the day, I had 3 go to setups.

1/8 oz jig and 3" Kalins grub
1/8 oz rattle trap
1/4 oz rooster tail

I'd get yourself a pair of waders or old gym shoes and work around the islands, deeper pools and riffle areas.
You'll get into em.

Thanks for the tips Esox Tracker. I'm looking a little north of Route 30 right now, looks like there are some good islands, a little deeper water as well. Any chance you know how I could find out the depth of the rive in certain places?

Not to mention the river is chocolate milk, try some of the smaller feeder creeks when the main stem muddies or is high. I did well over the weekend using this method.
