Picked up a dozen X-large fathead minnows at the Salmon Shop in Palatine then headed for the Dundee Road bridge. Water level was higher & faster than I was ready for on my first outing of the year. Got nothing on cranks and minnows, so after 2 hours I moved on to South End Park.
The park was crowded with folks fishing for carp & cats. Managed to get around them and fished by the bridge. There's a very large tree restricting the water flow on the westside of the bridge. Doesn't look like it's going to be going anywhere soon, unless somebody helps it with good-sized chainsaw.
No bites, no nibbles, nothing, so I packed up and went north to a spot in Algonquin. Downriver, same story, but upriver hooked 8 smallies. Landed 4, of which was a 14 incher. All but the biggest were taken on a CHEAP, WHITE, INLINE SPINNER. Go figure
Lots of time to remember what Memorial Day is for :D Thanks to all who gave their lives so I can fish.
