Hi, I just moved to St. Charles......the new townhome complex on Route 25 (Saddle Ridge). I work in Bloomingdale. Getting myself familiar with the area and wondering if there is any decent walleye action in the Fox River I can try, shorefishing. Seems like they should be active this time of year or soon anyway. I see it's a really shallow river. Thanks.

You'll find a eyes in the Fox (I wouldn't eat); however you'll do better in the K3 or at Heideke.

Welcome to the site Zim. I've always been able to pick up eye's at the dam's drifting roaches and large fathead minnows.

You're right that there is some shallow spots where you can wade but the river does have some deeper wash outs.

The fox also has some great smallmouth fishing Owesgo and Yorkville are some of the favorite haunts for these and folks pick up eyes while fishing for them as well as other species.

You may want to pick up some waders, it opens up a ton of other opportunities on the river.

If you live that close to the Fox, no point in traveling. When warmer, get waders.

Thousands of walleye have been stocked in Elgin and for miles below Yorkville, those would be your high percentage areas.

But they are everywhere, including St. Charles. Go for a walk from the dam down on both sides of the river. Pretty good shore areas. Better is Batavia, half way to North Aurora. Just about anywhere between North Aurora and Aurora. Too hard to describe how to fish it all.

Then switch to smallies. Walleye fight like pulling wet socks off the bottom.

You actually have a very productive stretch of fox river at your back door. I travel to st charles/geneva/batavia just to fish that stretch, just watch out for the muskies.

Small split shot and a minnow will get you a variety of fish at that dam.
