I live near the Elgin dam, actually just moved there. Just curious, when do the walleye start hitting around that area? Is it still too early? Also, what lure or baid is recommended for this area? I lost a couple of rapalas over the weekend and did not see anyone else fish there.

I would get out there now, try smaller swimbaits and grubs, and live bait and jigs. Ill be out there on the boat Sunday Best of luck to you.

Thank you and same to you. I do not own a boat and hence try to fish from shore and lose quite a bit of rapalas, swimbaits and hooks in general. I am on the other side if the dam where the water drops. Tried all sorts of lures today and no luck. Will try again tomorrow.

Any recommendations as to where on the fox to fish from shore. I go to Elgin dam as it is closer to me but can go anywhere there is fish.

You have to wade the river to get to the best spots. Fox is generally an easy river to wade.

Tried fishing South Elgin from the dam to the first bridge. The river was really moving but did managed to get one small mouth on a black road runner of all things. I did talk to one guy that he said pulled out a 35 inch musky earlier but I didn't see it. Sunday the river was rolling below the dam.
