Spring is just around the corner as far as the ditch is concerned. It might be cold on the hands until the rod bends but, a few weeks away!

Sad day when we cant hard water fish, but the ditch keeps us going.

The snow is coming but looks like a warm spell behind it. Moving the boat from the yard to the garage in the morning before the snow gets too deep. Want to be ready for the Ditch if Mother Nature gives us a break. Maybe less than a week!

ME too! Me too! Looks like we'll have to wait a week or so, the ice is packed up against the shore pretty tight. Only a matter of time!

so what is the magic water temp up here near waukegan? Indiana is a haul!

When the ice stops freezing on your rod, isn't the answer I was looking for... I was looking for an actual temp, preferably in ferenheit

They will be there right after ice out. 45 to 52 degrees is when they really put the feed bag on. With depth of the water in Indiana being less than Waukegan, the water reaches higher temps quicker in Indiana. Give it a try as soon as you can wet a line. A small coho of 18inches or so, that has only lived in cold water is mighty tasty.
Good Luck

I haven't been there in a while. I will be there as soon as the weather warms up just a little. It seems like a small increase in the water tempeture really turns them on. With it being this cold, I think it will be hit or miss. As soon as I make it out, I will post a report. I will be fishing from shore casting into the ditch.

looks like a "warmer" weekend with mid to high 30s and then in the middle of the week it will get down to the mid 20s again, why can't we break this cold funk and get to the average highs?

geez

In most years, I have had my boat in the water at the Ditch by the end of Feb. Now it seems like it will be the 3rd week of March b/4 the weather is really at its' prime for spring coho. Whenever it breaks, I am ready to go.
