Had to do something different since the heat is cranked up this weekend. Decided to wade a stretch of the Kishwaukee near DeKalb. This is skinny water at this time of year with an average depth of just 2 feet. My buddy & I put on # 3 Mepps Agilas with gold blades and threw them on light tackle over about a 100 yard stretch. We got 6 about this size and lost a few others. These guys are the apex predators in this little creek and followed our baits right back to our feet. THEY WERE FEARLESS AND ABSOLUTELY POUNDED OUR SPINNERS. Micro-wire leaders helped seal the deal. All were released after we revived them properly. Any fish can be a good fight if you scale down your tackle. On light St. Croix's, we had a BLAST!

Pike in 2 feet of water and you wading. That had to be a lot of fun. I see you still have all of your fingers.

Some gators! I still kick myself for not fishing that river when I was at NIU.
