I have lived in Coal City my entire life and I have never fished the Mazon River. I would like to give it a try for smallies. Does anyone know of any spots where anglers are allowed to park on the side of the road without getting towed?
I have thought about stopping at the bridge on 113 going towards, but I don't want my car to get towed for parking on the side of the road.

I used to park off White Tie Rd. and fish an area we called the bluffs. That was a while back. I'm not sure about that now. It was however a great smallie haven as well as a very scenic stretch of river. If the fishing was slow I'd look for fossils they are all over in there. Worth a try.

I fish mazonia(south unit) and take the boat all the way to the back and wade the river in the summer.

Can't help you with access, but if you find some, definitely give it a go. I usually fish the Mazon for catfish, but have on occasion fished for smallmouth. Lots of rocks, riffles, cuts, etc. Very nice river, very scenic.
Note: Can't help you with access because it's been a couple years since I've last fished it and I don't think I ever bother to learn the directions. I would always use landmarks.

RT 53 JUST PAST THE MAZONIA pitts going south tthere is a bridge going over the river if you park on the north side of the bridge ther is a good stretch of wadable water and lots of fish there if you go west about 1/4 mile right where the pitts start there is deeper water, i have fished those waters for 20yrs and always had good luck and if its to slow you can always go over the hill and fish the pitts

There are Gar in there. Also brush up on your prairie growth info. Lots of poison Ivy along the banks.
