Just wandering if anybody has spent any time on the river? I just gained access to 20 acres of timber along the river and was looking at the fishing possibilites. I have heard alot of good things but was told access was the problem on the river. I know there is alot of cats, and have heard stories of monster walleyes anything else in there, I would think anything that's in the K3 would be in the river. I have fished it a few times but was wondering if anybody has put some time in on the river. Flathead100

interesting you should mention that river John,

I've been doing a little research on the Iriquois around the Watseka area. Looks to be one of the main reasons that the Illinois River has a strong population of catfish. Habitat, current velocity, and cover seem to be excellent for cats... channel cats at least. If you want to give it a try this spring, let me know... I just need a spot I can launch my big boat from. :D

How BIG is your boat, Tim?
Except in years of high water, it's a pretty shallow river.
Those trees along the river drop some kind of hellacious fruits as well!
Twice I've targeted the shoreline structure while in my Jon boat, and twice I got hit with one of those things. The size of a small softball. When it's fairly dark early in the morning, you'd think 6lb. Smallies were jumping all around you...we did!
I'll save one next time and look it up on the internet.

Anyway....
Ever hear of the Chicken Hole?

That's it Rich!
Those are the damn things that I was dodging out there.
As for a spot to try, don't overlook the area where the Iroquois dumps into the Kankakee.
Avoid summer (when the jet skiers are out in force) and waterfowl season.
That leaves a very small window of opportunity.
Come to think of it, take me with and we'll talk Chicken then.

I had one drop down and hit me in the head in Rock Creek one time. I had a headache for two days.

As for the Iroquois , there are some big walleyes that come out of there.

Norm

Flathead100 and I will likely be doing some hunting at ice out. I will surely let you know when we go.
Hope all is well.

Murph,

Jonesin to get out. Twixt work , the flu and a frozen river it's been a couple weeks. That should change very soon, got open water below the dam and some days off coming.
