Good day on the Root! Ended up with 19 fish between my son and I (he got most of them). Mostly browns both male and female and about 6 steelheads again both bucks and hens. Drifting spawn sacs under a bobber worked for us but other fishermen were doing well with flies as well.

Now that's a great day in anyone's book. And to enjoy fishing with your son.... :thumbs

Sauger, thanks for the report.. A family member of mine was there swinging some flies and in 4 hours he got 11, 7 steelies and the rest were browns. He told me to get out there before it gets swamped with fisherman. Haha but you know the Mighty Ole Root!!! The root can get swamped with people. It's great to know they made a nice run up river. But is this the fall steelheads making there way up river late due to water temps and water levels. Or do you think the steelies came up early for the steelhead run, every fall winter and spring it changes. Winter Chrome is sure a lot of fun! Thanks for the report. I will be out there swinging some flies this weekend!

I have to think that the steelies are there anytime the current and water conditions allow it, but with the browns still spawning it probably gave them more reason to hang around. Dinner is served!

Poor fish? Poor fisherman!

Think about all the cold weather we have had over the last week. My guess is that the fish in the river are pretty safe this weekend with all the shelf ice and slush coming down stream. Good open pockets to drift may be few and far between.

As for the fish in the harbor, that's a different story!

I think you are right about this upcoming weekend. I would like to hit the water but this bathroom remodeling project that I decided to do about 10 years ago should be about time to get started.

I think it should be done sometime lets say mid march with the river at about 350 cfs and around 40 degrees!

Yeah, you don't want to rush a project like that. Especially with 10 years of planning.
