Your set-up should work fine. Line capacity with not be an issue on that stream as in many spots your '10 yards of mono backing' would be sufficient. (j/k)

i still dont know how to catch these damn things :( been out about 8 times and hooked up 2 times and after a wonderful fight and some splendid jumping both times the stealhead decided it was done playing around and did loops around the nearest log jam. both times i hooked up i was throwing inline spinners and it was on trail creek.so sad

No need to be sad. The hooked/landed ratio on these fish is well tilted in the fishes favor. Keep at it, and you will see your ratios improve by leaps and bounds. The time of the year you fish is also going to affect the amount of hook ups you have. You'll have a lot more hook up in June, but these fish are the Skamania strain, and a 20% landed/hook up ratio would be pretty much par for the course. I've been fishing the creeks for over 25 years now, and the moves these fish make to break you off, never cease to amaze me, as well as get my heart pounding in my chest, like no other fish I have ever hooked.

wait.. so all three rivers/creeks are in Indiana?

if so, looks like im gonna pass on fishing there for the spring.. going broke buying all this fishing gear, nonres illinois license, etc.

i went out 4 times before i finally caught a steelhead. Beleive me you will have your day. the first time i ever caught anything in a creek i caught 3 steelhead in under 2 hours just keep at it!
