Spent the day fishing Trail Creek with my brother Aj and a buddy on my football team from college. The water was very clear and there were not many fish in the creek. The few fish that were in, were in the deep holes and under the brush piles. We started fishing at about 7:30am and I hooked into the male fairly quickly, and then I hooked into the female about 20 minutes after in the same hole. Black Woolly Buggers took both fish.

For those of you that know my brother and I, you know that we have been fishing this creek our whole lives. Going all the way back to when we were so small our dad had to hold the rod for us while we reeled in the fish he just hooked for us. To this day, I still remember how excited I was each time he’d hook into one and pass the rod. This feeling is the reason I’m still hooked today. I finally had the opportunity to pass on the favor yesterday. My buddy Grant, before yesterday morning, never had the opportunity to catch a Steelhead before, but we changed all that. For the second fish of the day, It shot out from underneath a brush pile and smashed the fly as I was about to pull it out of the water. Luckily he was fishing next to me and I was able to hand it over. Seeing his reaction and the excitement he had while it went on a long run brought back all the memories I had from my childhood here at the creek and made it all worth it. It was a great trip, and I couldn’t be happier to get another person hooked on this great fishery.

Great way to spend the day. Always one of the best parts of fishing for me is seeing the look on someones face when they fight that first fish.
Nice job boys. Welcome home.

Great post and nice job on passing the fishing bug off to your buddy. Now he'll want to get back out to hook one himself. Looks like a hoot in that narrow stretch with downed trees!

Looked and tasted as good on the plate for Christmas Eve dinner, as it did when it was caught.

Nothing like some Midwest Surf and Turf with Steelhead and Venison.

Man was it good.
