Has anyone been on the river before the rains?...

Good Luck To All

There’s plenty of fish (steelhead) from Benton Harbor all the way up through South Bend. USGS stream flow gauges in the area can let you know what the levels are like at any given time. Flows from down stream from the dam at Berrien are less predeictable since they are based on electricity demands. They can be saving water holding water back for some reason when its raining cats and dogs or running the turbines wide open on a clear blue sky day. Last month I fished the dam when Trail Creek was running 9ft out of its banks and at the dam they only had 1 gate open. Steelhead numbers are better than salmon numbers were this fall, but like the salmon the average size is up and some true trophies are in the mix.
