Decided to do a bike and fish combination at the WB this afternoon. What a beautiful day! River is clear and flowing slowly. I could see schools of fish just waiting for a bite in eddies, near submerged vegetation and dead wood. Found tons of smallies -- the darker ones are easy preys, anyone can see them easily in shallow and clear waters. It's amazing there is no fishing pressure at this stream -- I rode my bike for miles and saw nobody fishing. Few casts with a 2" brownish crawfish on jig was like grabbing them with hands. Here couple pics that came out nicely. Total of 4 fishes in 30-40 min. Doctor recommended cardio, so I have to do more riding than fishing :D :D :D

Nice fish and a smart Dr. for those kind of therapy sessions.

You took some nice fish. It was a very nice day but chores were a higher priority. I would have liked to wet my fly line but I also had my Korkers felt sole come apart so I need to take stock of my boots.

For a beginner to both fly fishing and wading ( have been fly fishing for a few months, but have only waded once) where along the West Branch would be a good spot to wade/fly fish?

I've been only bank fishing these days and haven't got my feet wet in a long time. Most of the WB is pretty shallow and wadeable. Silt makes it stickier in some areas. It gets better all the way downstream from Naperville downtown.
