Thinking I could (should?) practice some fly casting, I took the 3wt to the west branch (knees were feeling better and tv is blah). Spending a little over an hour, I had a difficult time getting anything to bite with a popper or wooly. A few bluegill and some bigger sunfish and the off-one small largemouth (too bad not the other way around--one large smallmouth). Coming off the river, about 7:15, a hatch must have been ongoing since just above the water's surface thousands of (what looked like) moth-type insects were flying. I thought of tryign to match the hatch bu it was getting dark and the only rises I saw were small fish.
The fly casting, though, is improving.

It's like golf - the only way to get better is practice, practice, practice!
