Decided to fish the Riverwalk for Carp and Smallies with the fly gear yesterday.

Overall pretty disappointing, but also kind of expected. Basically I was sight fishing and despite seeing tons of fish (both species), I could only get a few small Bass under 8" to commit. The fish were very skiddish and would spook if anything was off about the presentation. Also foot traffic on the riverwalk would have a negative effect on fish holding tight to the wall. With the low/clear water, lord knows what those fish went through over the extended holiday weekend.

For carp, I had the 8-wt. Rigged up with a #8 Carp-a-licious in Dark Brown. Smallies were targeted on a 6-wt with a #8 Empee in Gold.

This was a midday trip. Probably could have done better early or late. If there was rain last night for the Dupage, that would also help out.

You wanna have a ball with that fly rod for carp? Go to Montrose harbor. There are some monsters in there and they are aggressive.
