so boat stands for?...

Anyways on lake mich 2 weeks ago boat ran great. no issues. but year before I was on Delavan and started it and leaked gas all over the place at the docks. embarrassed brought her home opened up the outboard and drained the check bowl.
Had left the gas hooked up and the guy I bought it from (neighbor) said don't do that as it had a habit of doing it in hot weather.

So unplugged it after lake michigan .....well brought her out this past sat on Loon lake and had the same thing happen. ended up using trolling motor anyways but got to thinking ....

the last time I had used it the cutoff 3 way valve was going to the main tank towards the left (facing the back) On lake michigan I was using the right tank.....last week the left again..... Is this a likely buy a new gas tank, replace the valve and hoses. or other issue? anyone ever have this happen.. 85 smokercraft. 50 HP 85 merc outboard. limited info I know..... looking at ideas before an overhaul.

this last weekend we ran it with the shut off valve in the off pos. (straight out) and it ran good until it ran out of gas... did not think to just switch the gas tank to the other side at the time. as soon as we turned the valve to the left in the on pos it gased out and flooded and spewed into the lake a bit until we tripped over ourselves to shut it down.... was able to catch most with a towel before the EPA needed to get called.

My thought too. When it's hot, it builds up pressure in the tanks, and it needs somewhere for the air to go...

My boat has a vent on the side of the hull right below the gas tank, specifically for this purpose.

O- ring where it plugs into motor, try replacing entire connector
Ethanol eats those o rings or just dry rot, easy fix ,mix a little Sea Foam or StaBil in your gas
If that's not it you are only out a couple bucks before you have go further
