Guys and gals, I am sitting in Hinsdale Hosp. Had surgery, this morning for a total knee replacement. Leg is immobilized and the an asthenia effects are wearing off. Have a block on the nerve which should last 18 hours. So, tomorrow the pain begins. Hope to be on the river, spring time.

Glad to hear you are on the mend Chuck. Looking forward to you being back in the water and giving your great reports.

hope all goes well! my dad waited too long (too old) to get his other knee done. recovery didn't go so well... i would encourage you to continue with some sort of strength training/conditioning program after your rehab is complete.

At the end of the 4th week and out patient therapy has begun. I should have waited for the spring; having a stiff knee and weak quad makes walking without a limp difficult. Nothing like single digit temps all the more lousy.
I have gone thru losing 13-14 lbs in 3 weeks (and I was not chubby to begin), a rash from the hibiclens, night sweats,...the worked over knee makes the right knee feel great.

Maybe walk the Promenade in Bolingbrook or Bass Pro until the weather gets better?

River was pretty frozen over this morning Chuck. You're not missing anything.

I had mine replaced 11 yrs ago. I have had 7 knee surgeries including the replacement. Work it as much as you can. You will be back alot sooner. Actually my wife had a replacement last Monday. She is getting around on the cane ok but still happier with the walker.

Starting the 6th week and the surgeon wants to see me, Wednesday, due to my complaints of the recurring stiffness. I exercise the knee according to the plan outlined by therapist's ATI but it stiffens and wants to revert back to its stiffness. From what I was told, they will take an x-ray. I am hoping that there is nothing wrong.
The irony is that what I am doing (sitting on my ass instead of being active) I would not need a new knee. The unchanged right knee feels great in comparison.
