I am looking for a newer boat and want to add a kicker motor to it. Does anyone know the cost of something like that with a break down on what parts you need and a cost? I am having trouble finding the right boat in the right price range with a kicker.

9.9 Four stroke motor - $3000
Throttle - ?
Linkage to the main motor for steering - ?
Split Fuel line connections - ?
Installation - ?

Not sure what I am what else I am missing.

Thanks for any help.

9.9 Four stroke motor - $3000
$3,000 for a electric start and power tilt 9.9. Don't lent anyone tell you that a 15hp is needed. Anything under 21' 9.9 is fine. Must be a high thrust motor. Yamaha and Honda are the best. Honda has a higher charging rate. Mercury are also very good.
Throttle -
you can go cable. The troll master or if you get a TR-1 it does the throttle as well.
Linkage to the main motor for steering -
Never bought it but I would suggest getting the TR1 gold autopilot. will be about $2,500 with bracket and throttle but really worth it.
Split Fuel line connections - ?
So the right way to do it is to run a separate fuel line back to the fuel tank. That said I have done 2 boats now and just cut the fuel line and used a T and it worked fine. Did a lot of research and many do the same without issues. Just make sure to use a good primer ball for both motors. The BRP bulbs are the best.
Installation - ?
Make sure to get a solid bracket. The brackets that go up and down are garbage. I used a panther bracket made for a 25hp. I could probably hang my boat from it. If you cant find a bracket to fit your needs stop by a welding shop and have one made. Generally pretty cheap. Under $300. My install was about 2 hours for the bracket. a hour and half staring and measuring. another 30 minutes actually drilling and mounting. To hook up the kicker and TR-1 autopilot was probably 5 hours on the first boat. Second boat maybe 3 to 4 hours.

not a easy as some might think every boat is a little different

some boat require some reinforcement to install kickers some will already be set up for it
properly installed they are well worth the trouble and expense

the close to the center line of boat they are installed the better they steer
no such thing as too much charging capacity

I didn't want to spend all the money to add the remote linkage for steering and throttle when I bought my boat this year. Figured I would just make it work using the tiller. Eventually added the iTroll for throttle and the Panther 55-2401 Auxiliary Motor Steering Kit for steering. Total cost under $500. Installed everything myself with average at best mechanical skills. Love the setup now. The only thing it doesn't allow you to do is engage or disengage gear remotely. Really like the iTroll hunt mode feature.

Good luck with your setup.

Thanks for the reply guys. The boat I am looking to purchase will be a 17-18 foot with a 115 motor. Adding a kicker myself will be interesting in it self. Setting up the fuel line is what I am most worried about. THe rest seems doable. So if I had a dealer do it I am thinking it would cost around $4500 for everything including the motor. But if I do it myself I should save around $1000/1500 ?
