Just a quick report - the Fox River in South Elgin is very wade-able right now. I've fished around the SEBA park area the past couple of evenings til dark. Managed one nice smallie (14"-15") on a Clouser Swimming Nymph. He broke the surface of the water with his back and I cast above him. He slammed the fly as soon as I started stripping it.

Chased some carp too, but no luck. I had one quick hook up the next night, but it came off just as fast. I figured I may have just snagged a carp.

I spotted a HUGE carp tailing in shallow water - based on the tail, he was probably close to 30" long. I kept casting just ahead of him and he kept ignoring my fly. Just when I though I had the perfect cast that would position my fly right in front of his face, it got snagged on a rock! I had to walk up to free my hook and obviously chased the fish away!

I'll probably hit Geneva next time I get out. There's a couple of good holes between the dam and Rt 38 bridge.

They're weighted with some lead wire, but not too much.

I've tied up backstabbers too but this area of the Fox is so rocky they get hung up on every cast.
