Hi everybody,

I just bought a Benelli Supernova shotgun and I am preparing to go hunting turkey for the first time. I need to pattern the shotgun, can you please tell me where to go around Chicago, or in a range of 100 miles from Chicago, to do that?

Thanks,
Vittorio

You can go to Buffalo Rock Range, it is in Ottawa and is a public range.

There is another public range not too far from the city in Northern Indiana, but I am not sure of the name.

We used to go to Jasper-Pulaski state park in jasper county indiana. It was about a 2 hr. ride, nice place have'nt been there for a while. I remember they were closed mondays, found that out the hard way. They had pistol range, archery range with elevated platforms, and I think a 200 yd. rifle range. I would take everything and make a day out of it

JP-Jasper Pulaski, closed still on mondays. They have a pistol range, a 50yrd. range, a 100, and a 225yrd gun range. South on RT.421, You must sign in at the headquarters first. They have a range attendant now, some weren't following the range rules so thats why they have the attendant.

Willow Slough in Indiana. "Free". 60 miles of Chicago. Bring ear protection. Check hrs of operation at the web site.

A lot of the guys out here like to use the signs on the side of the road but there are better options. I would try Des plaines conv. area in Wilmington.

You could go to Silver Springs SP. I don't think you would have any issues there & its free.
Plan on shooting a box or 2 of shell through it to break it in. Benelli's are notorious for jamming when they are brand new out of the box.

Des Plaines Conservation Area doesn't allow target shooting. I tried to pattern some turkey loads there once. I was told no target shooting.

Hand Trap Range

Two hand trap ranges and an archery range are open to the public daily except during pheasant hunting season. Sportsmen are welcome to practice and hone their skills so they will be ready to go on opening day.

Shooting Sports

In addition to the two hand trap and archery ranges, Des Plaines hosts three wingshooting clinics and two Hunter Safety Classes annually. Wwingshooting clinics are held on the first weekend in June; the Hunters Safety Classes are available in June and August.

So they allow hand trap but you can't shoot at a target...oh yeah, forgot it's Illinois, no wonder all the street signs are shot up.

Uhhhhhhhh? A Nova jamming? It's a pump....am I missing something?

Try McMiller as well. Much better option than any of the others.
