Here is the first report of the new year. As of Friday, we had open shorelines on the southern ponds. As of yesterday afternoon, there was still open shorelines and some areas that opened up completely. So this morning I cautiously ventured out to check the ice. I did bring my gear, but I never wetted a line. Those open areas did close up from those cold overnight temps. All the open areas had less than an inch of ice. The shorelines only had an inch to an inch and a half of ice. Some parts my spud bar was able to go through. If I had a few wooden planks, I would have been able to reach the main pad. Oh well. I didn't want to take a cold bath. I checked this week's forecast, and will be good to go this weekend out south.

i aswell have a honey hole in the mokena area but even in 20 degree conditions there's always an inch of slush ontop of the ice. im heading out in the morning to check it out but do not plan on staying because as of right now im expecting to still see open water planning on heading out there around tuesday or wednesday for some freakishly huge gills and slabs so let me kno if ur headin out there before theen to check the ice
