When I got the invite to go on a walkabout with Mr Luc and crew, I was truely excited. I have not made the time to get out on the ice this season yet and was looong overdue. I knew fish or no fish, the Mohawkians would lead me on a fun filled adventure.....
Unfortunately, something I ate....or some little bug, had other plans for me and decided a walk of this magnitude was not a wise decision.
Late last night I was feeling better and gave a call to the Big LC to see if he wanted to hit the ice somewhere local in case the little bug reared it's ugly head again.....
First stop was to JJ's bait and tackle to grab some odds and ends then off to our first spot in Bollingbrook which after 2 hours produced nada.
Our next spot was a secret little lake the Big LC has fond childhood memories of. Even though the fish were in a neutral to negative mood, we had enough action to keep us on our toes. We had a handfull of flags fly and some decent action on our jigging sticks in 5 feet of water. The Big LC landed this beautiful LM on a UL jigging stick with a demon tipped with a spike and 2lb test.

The best part of the day was bringing home a couple dozen nice gills. I haven't kept any fish caught on the ice in about 4 years, so it was a great treat.
Hopefully, that jolly bearded fellow....no, not santa.....will invite me out again, as I could hear the giggles and screaming drags in the background when I gave him a call this afternoon. It was good to hear that those fine gents had a swell time on the ice today too.

Enjoyable day for sure, my friend! Still can't believe that pack of coyotes running wild. It seems everytime we're on the ice together we see them. You gotta stop spraying yourself down with that rabbit urine...

Those are good luck charms.
Seeing a coyote on the way to the lake always bodes well for the bite once on the water.

Ya know what I like about Chuck, besides the fact that he's a fine angler?
He's the only guy I know, who takes a professional photographer along on his fishing outings.
That is one fine photo.

I hear ya, Ed. It's been a tuff bite in general the past couple weeks. It seems a couple here & a couple there. Must be those February blues? Hopefully it will get better as March approaches, but by that time I'm usually thinking about open water. LOL

Great color on that fish, I am still looking for a guy like that to bring through the ice. Will make up for a lot of slow fishing...

Nice bass guys. I'm sure that baby screeched the drag a few times. Been there done that Chuck. Try having that happen when you are 20 feet up in a tree!!!!!

Yeah, he's a good one. Very strict about proper angles & wind drag.

Thanks for all the nice comments, hopefully we'll all have some good days left on the ice before it's all gone.

No, we held off on the walkabout through the wilderness for another day.
Those of us who did get together, k3 fisher, k3’s friend John (a fella who makes his way by means of walkabout through these lakes) Esox Tracker and I joined up along the shore of Paradise lake mid morning. We relocated to the northern end of the wilderness and worked a single, easy access lake once together and spent our entire time there jigging and running for tripped traps. We had ourselves a mini picnic on ice and caught a bunch of fish and had a time of it but without Chas’ professional photographer along to document the day, we had to leave our story on the ice.

Here's a nice fish Val.
Just refresh the page a dozen times and it looks just like a slide show.

I was all ready for the walkabout untill I got the call..... The next thing I know I'm going to Walgreens to pick up Tums, Pepto, & baby wipes for my sick partner. ....

I told him we would just fish local, and just to bring the tripod & the Mamiya DL28 (that's a 15K camera for those that care.. ). From there he could just chill out, relax, and wait for his cue.

I'll make sure he's ready for our next adventure, Any.
