Had a chance to hike out to a fishing place near the Mackinaw Bridge in Northern Michigan wading into Lake MI to jig for bass, a first time experience for me!

The lake is very flat in this area and we were able to wade several hundred yards into the lake and have it be waist height and filled with rocks, sand, and bullrushes for as far as the eye could see. Fishing a fat tube jig of a few different colors with a slow retrieve.

1st hour was a bit slow just hunting for a good spot and getting used to the terrain. Finally worked up to a bull rush with with a stones, sand, and a drop off that looked great! Lost 2 jigs on bad casts, then finally found a few clear casting lanes and it was game on! 13 for 16 in less than 2 hours! These were all bass between 12 and 16 inches except for one that got bit off right away. Father-in-law suggested that it was likely a pike.

First time bass fishing in Lake Michigan!
