So I hit the lakefront around 8:45p with the sole purpose of targeting Salmon that are moving in closer to shore with the water temps now in the low 50's. Glow Spoons and Flicker Minnows were the only thing I was throwing and would you believe the Smallmouth showed out! Caught about 8 fish in that time all more or less about the same size as the two pictured below. I inadvertently put on a fishing clinic for all the couples walking around as the fireworks show was going on.

The thing is, I know there were Salmon in the area because the times a Smallie didn't crush my spoon or minnow, I'd actually see the silver flash of a Salmon chasing my lure as it came back to the bank but they didn't commit. You know, the funny part is that if I went out to fish specifically targeting Smallie's, I probably wouldn't have even caught one Smallie! lol I'm not complaining, just pointing out the irony in fishing at times. But with the water temps in the low 50's it can easily explain the aggressiveness of the Smallmouth tonight.

Nice review, glad you had some action of any kind!

I shore fished Sunday evening and didn't see any salmon, but I did catch a few smallies as well. All between 14-17 inches... nice fight to them too. I think they are liking the cooler near shore water.

Hopefully the silver fish start biting!

Yup, I've had agressive smallies eating those big ol' salmon spoons as well. All takers are welcome!
