Ive never been to the Rock Run but might check it out this weekend. Anyone been out here lately? Is it worth a trip? Any info would be appreciated.

Just an fyi. Strictly electric motor only. They won't even allow you to fire up the big engine to get it back on the trailer.

Not worth the trip, just an extension of des plains river. Heidecke or kankakee, a better choice. cooler weather may finally begin to turn fish on.pass bye it all the time. hardly anyone fishes it. fish are few and far between. Sorry for the negative report. but you asked.

I totally agree with it being a waste of time. All the bucket heads ruined the place. used to be good but they ascended on the place and kept every fish they caught regardless of size or species. A suggestion is the des planes river conservation on the kank. good luck. Cheers.

its not as good of a fishery as it was when it opened but theres still some good fish to be had there IMO ive had several 10+ bass days there this year my best luck has come fishing the islands and back shoreline that backs up to rt6 KVD 1.5 chartreuse square bill and t rigged 4 in yum dingers with a 1/16th oz bullet weight worked good for me

Anyone ever have luck fishing the small lake at Rock Run? The water is much clearer.

i really believe most of the fish escaped out the back where they dug it out. back in the day the water looked like the other small lakes in there, they really messed the place up when they dug out the back erea.

Decided to check it out Saturday, there were 4 other boats out there. We got about 12 LM nothing over 14" though, crankin rock piles. This place was literally loaded with shad; i did not think we'd even get bit. Not sure when ill go back, but overall it wasn't a waste of time; i think given better conditions we could have a pretty good day out there. Seen a guy throwing a big bucktail and doin figure eights; i thought that was pretty strange. Maybe he knows something i dont?
