nice fish. i know i will get ridiculed for this but you really shouldnt be holding onto fish getting ready to spawn for the purpose of taking a picture. catch the fish, take the picture, and let it get back to what it was doing....

not to mention if thats illinois the dnr would have a field day for each fish under 20" and more than 1 of them....

jjocke, all fish were released i would NEVER keep a smallie to eat. Duncan all fish we caught in Indiana waters. These fish were not on beds and in my opinion Lake Michigan bass fishing is the best its been in years and is only getting better. There are tourneys out there every weekend not to mention there was a 25lb bag weighed in last week in a tourney. Me holding onto a few fish for a picture isnt going to harm the bass population, just sayin

That is a nice whitefish you snagged. Not a shad. You can tell by how the mouth and head kind of bend towards the bottom. Nice smallish for sure tho.

Actually, I'm pretty confident it is a shad. Whitefish are part of the salmonine family and they have an adipose fin. The fish pictured does not, plus has the right body shape and coloration to be a shad
