I'd rather pay a little more and keep my money in America , then save a few bucks and have it go to China!

Most things made in USA I believe to be sourced from components globally. I know most of the aluminum boats we see are made in USA but no idea where the actual aluminum comes from.

Ok...lets look at this a little closer. Bauxite is the mineral aluminum is refined from. Why is aluminum recycling such a lucrative and widespread process here? It has to do with the refining process which is VERY costly! Bauxite is ground down to a fine powder then mixed with water to make a slurry. This slurry is then electrocharged to pull the aluminum from the mineral slurry. This process uses mass amounts of electricity. Thats why aluminum refineries are close to cheaper hydroelectric power. Thats why recycling aluminum is so cost effective and the scrap carries the value it does versus other metals. So remember this.... you want cheap Chinese aluminum? They are using electric like crazy...most likely coal fired plants. What way does the wind/jet stream blow in the Northern Hemisphere? From west to east! So all that air pollution is blowing over here! So what are you saving? Nothing....all the costs related to the air pollution nix that. People need to start looking at the big picture!

Another World according to Geo opinion. Yes I said opinion...opinions can't be argued!

A good part of plate and structural aluminum shapes comes from our neighbor to the north, Canada.

The proposed tariffs on aluminum and more importantly steel have to do with China and there increasing "cheaply produced" product dumped on the global market. This has to do with poor working conditions, cheap labor, and absolutely no consideration for pollution control. Also, it affects the aluminum foil market which is an animal of its own.

None of this should affect costs of aluminum boats in any substantial manor. If it does to one certain manufacture, it may be a signal to steel clear of their product anyway because they are sourcing raw material from the wrong place.

Personally I hope the government (DT) punishes the hell out of incoming Chinese steel and other products. We have been doing a fine job for the last 100 years manufacturing it ourselves. We don't need to buy steel, aluminum, glass, or other products from there.

God Bless America!

All valid points from everyone and everyone pointing out to Buy U.S. Never hurts to ask where the Aluminum was made or purchased. Windy City summed it up with, "We don't need to buy steel, aluminum, glass, or other products from there". Well said and put. Buy U.S.A. Products and as Geo said, Keep American money in America. :flag :santa

Just picked up another north west style aluminum boat much like hewes craft that is a little more expensive mostly because they used 90% domestic aluminum /North American
their price will not be effected and soon they may be less money
domestic aluminum is better easier to work with a consistent thickness aluminum is less likely to warp or oil can when welded
Thunder jet MADE IN USA
http://www.thunderjet.com/2014/02/thund ... -brochure/
WE WILL BE CLOSING OUT OUR REMAINING STOCK OF HEWES CRAFT BOATS HAVE 2 19' HARD TOPS AND A OPEN FISHERMAN IN STOCK
SAVE BIG $$
