Green Bay Fishing Report 8-21-2016

Walleyes were hitting the net this week with excellent fishing when we could get out we did have a few storms roll through this weekend in which we had to roll back to the boat launch and wait them out due to lighting. After the storm cells moved through we were fishing again and lets just say it was great fishing with wind directions all over the place we managed to stay on active fish making adjustments in terms of boat control, speed, depth. We had some great groups this week from newbies to repeat clients fishing with Green Bay Trophy Fishing and we certainly made some great memories laughing joking catching personal best walleyes getting to know these groups is one of my favorite parts of guiding because believe it or not fishing does become work after awhile Barbara & I do love our customers making it all worth while making new friend and meeting expectations. Walleye fishing's is excellent all over Green Bay from what I'm gathering sharing info from other guides putting your time in working key spots like off shore structure, reefs, shoreline breaks, seem to be holding walleyes. Water temps are warm so metabolism rates are high in walleyes which means eating is a priority that being said with warm water temps handling and releasing walleyes is key to ensure survival rates when releasing trophy caliber walleyes. We did catch walleyes 26 - 31 inchs this last week and a quick pic and back in the water with fish being out of the water maybe 45 seconds at most getting the fish off the hook pic and back they swam away nicely with little to no signs of stress due to mishandling or warm water. Walleye fishing should remain hot for several more weeks into September based on weather and wind and when its windy we usually fish in the Sturgeon Bay shipping channel where we finding calmer waters catching walleye, pike, bass.

Bass fishing in Door County has been fair to good with crank baits, swim baits, tandem spinner blades working covering water looking for active bass. We expect bass fishing to greatly improve when water temps start falling this fall and we will be ready! Washington Island fall smallmouth bass trips available please contact Barbara for more info 920-255-2617

Green Bay Fishing Report 9-5-2016

Hello friends just wanted to take some time and thank you for reading our fishing reports as we guide almost every day trying to stay on walleye & smallmouth bass fishing Green Bay.
Walleye fishing has been tough this week with only a few good days where we got numbers of walleye certainly the strong north blow cold front that rolled in Thursday and Friday didn't help with water temps dropping 10 plus degrees. Bigger walleyes seem to bite on the post cold front days with only a few fish per trip we did tie in to a few toads measuring 30 inches plus. Big crank baits were key! Berkley flicker minnows in size 11 and Rapala deep diving husky jerks size 12 worked as the bigger walleyes were deep in the spots we were fishing these baits were deployed targeting 19 - 24 feet of water and trolling slow 1.4 - 1.7 mph as walleyes were negative. Winds have changed to a south direction yesterday and today improving walleyes fishing with a limit catch today of 10 eater sized walleye ranging from 15 - 21 inches to begin the new week. Berkley flicker minnows size 7 worked good fishing over shallow humps as walleyes were transitioning back on to structure as the weather pattern had been stabilizing post cold front. We love south wind and walleye fishing should remain good to excellent through September with weather being the variable especially north winds that can make walleye fishing tricky when water temps drop fast.

Green Bay fishing report 9-12-2016

Walleye fishing remains consistent catching trophy sized walleyes around Sturgeon Bay and Door County with eater sized walleyes being caught in that lower Green Bay area. Wind has a great impact on walleye fishing this time of year boat control, speed is really important and with strong winds it can be difficult at times fine tuning your trolling presentations. Living in the Sturgeon Bay area dealing with wind is an every day occurrence so fishing on the big water when the winds are right or sliding into the Sturgeon Bay shipping channel to avoid the big waves is always an option this time of year. Trolling big crank baits this last week has produced some big walleyes #11 flicker minnows down 20-28 feet behind off-shore planer boards has been the ticket trolling slow 1.4-1.6 mph. Rip jigging Rapala #6 ripping raps and moonshine shiver minnows also producing a few tanker walleyes. Drifting with live bait in the Sturgeon Bay shipping channel on windy days has been a great option catching a varieties of fish walleye, pike, smallmouth bass, perch. Washington Island Smallmouth bass fishing trips in October we only have a few more openings left please call Barbara for more info or bookings. We expect to be Fall fishing for walleye and bass up until ice up!

Green Bay Fishing Report 9-22-2016

Walleye fishing remains excellent around the Sturgeon Bay area and south with a mixed bag of eater sized walleyes and trophy caliber walleyes. Techniques very from rip jigging rapala ripping raps, moonshine shiver minnows, rapala jigging raps and trolling big crank baits like the berkley flicker minnow #11 has been money for us especially on Larsons reef. When its flat calm out or a small ripple I like jigging the key to jigging is to locate walleyes from my experience over years of trolling has taught me when we would catch walleyes time and time again we found patterns (gps waypoints pinpointing key areas) that walleyes were congregating on tips, edges of humps or sometimes on top of humps don't be afraid to cover water around key humps say on Larsons reef walleyes tend to move a lot so don't get frustrated when you hit a few spots and don't connect keep moving working various humps and reefs looking for active walleyes. Windy conditions for me I like to troll due to better boat control and covering water looking for active fish over key areas depending the area were fishing. Patients and understanding of your boat, tackle, equipment, electronics can make a huge difference in zero fish to catching fish based on fine tuning as the day goes on. Many times the first few hours of a guided trip i completely got my ass handed to me and i would freak out thinking whats going on! but over time I've learned to be patent and make adjustments as the day progressed when fishing is slow improving our odds putting more fish in the boat for my clients. However when the fishing is good or its your day you really can't do much wrong those are the days I really appreciate the fish making us fisherman look like rockstars! I have had a few days off earlier in the week (worked on ice houses getting ready for an epic ice season!) but its back to the grind for me walleyes until the end of September then on to Washington Island October 1st through mid October for fall smallmouth bass fishing. Anyone I mean anyone looking for and awesome experience we have October 5th,10th,12th open for bass fishing otherwise were full.

Were on first ice around Sturgeon Bay Wi area mostly back bays Sturgeon Bay Shipping Channel with about 6 inches of ice! So we're running early ice trips catching perch, pike, burbut, whitefish so its game time boys for some early ice action! We expect for a long season and good winter with bitter cold temps coming in around the first of the year helping with ice making conditions. If you would like to get out this week between Christmas & New Years we will be out guiding!
Call Barbara for booking or more info!

Good Morning,
Captain Lon from Green Bay Trophy Fishing, walleye fishing the last few days has been insane catching 50 to 75 walleyes per trip lots of shorts (walleyes under 15 inches) plenty of 15 to 20 inch walleyes, perch, pike, bass and tons of sheephead!  Action packed for kids, families, friends to enjoy the day fishing! Consistent weather patterns have been key in getting these walleyes on the chew! Night crawler harnesses and flicker minnows are my two favorite baits right now covering 12 to 18 feet of water. We are running a kids fishing special right now take $100 off the bill to get kids out fishing! Don't have a boat? short on time let us take you fishing with no shortage of action!
Give us a call for pricing or to book a trip!
