I've never fished L. Sara, is it a good bass lake?
Is the fall a good time to fish it for bass or does it get too weedy? I would appreciate any info you can pass down to me.

Collector, sorry I don't have any current reports for you, but from my experience the fishing there this time of year is never bad!

Born2fysh, in the early to mid 90's it was an outstanding bass lake. That bass virus that was going around in the mid to late 90's put a hurting on the lake. It has been rebounding nicely. I would now consider the bass fishing as good. The Fall is an excellent time, as the bass will be schooling up the shad in the coves. Spinnerbaits and rattle baits thrown in and around the shad should produce. Working the points with jigs and plastics should also produce.

I will be heading down there tomorrow probably as well. Blue mako center console boat. If you had any tips for this time of year it'll be my first time heading down there but lake michigan looks to be too wavy for tomorrow so I'll take my buddies there instead.

I wish I was heading down there now...however, I'm actually heading down there for a bass tournament on October 17th and 18th. Gonna try for some walleye and crappie the two days before the bass tourney, is it still a good time for crappie and walleye then? Looking forward to your report. Also, anyone else fishing the same tournament?

Crappie should be in full swing at that time. There isn't really a fishable population of walleye in the lake. They don't reproduce and they aren't stocked anymore. Most are caught fishing for other fish....the ones you do catch will be large.

Remember that you need an Effingham Water Authority sticker for the lake! Good luck and have fun!

Thanks dgi. I used to know it pretty well from fishing tournaments when I was younger, but haven't fished it in a few years. I'm pumped to be going back in October that late in the season, one of my favorite lakes for sure. Have seen 8 1/2 lb largemouths and have heard rumors of 10+ lbers a few years back. Overall, its a great bass lake pending the water isn't at a very low level. I'll give some tips on the bass after the tournament is over, haha.

I will be down at Anthony Acres the 29th 30th and the 1st. You need a sticker to get on the Lake. It's $80.00 up front but refunded when you turn in the Sticker. You can call Anthony Acres for up to date info.
I should also be down there around halloween, either with a fishing bud or the RFC or maybe both.
I don't fish for bass but catch a Keeper size once in awhile.
Like Bob said, the Walleye population consists of survivors from a long ago stocking.
My bud caught a 6 1/2 Lb. Last fall.
Hope to have some good reports and pic up in a week or so.
Tight lines and safe waters for your trip.

Good luck John. I'll be headed down there in a few weeks with the family. I'm gonna try and get my 4 yo on some crappie action!

We caught probably 60 sunfish and blue gills but couldn't find any crappie. Basically tried under various covered boat docks and also a few area out in the lake. Tossed some bass plastics and cranks around here and there and also that one cove which is no wake and a fishing area with no luck. Didn't see any action going on with any of the other 6 or 7 boats that were out the whole day, besides one guy talking to me but I really couldn't hear him over the radio and when I turned around to turn it down he had trolled off by then.

Going down on Tuesday am for three days with Goose Hunter. Hope to have some good reports and pic for ya.
Bob, it should be a good time to get the kids on some fish. I should be going back down around Halloween or after too.

I'm heading down on Thursday for four days...any last minute tips for the crappies? I heard minnows but I've also heard artificial jigging. I'm guessing the water will be very muddy due to the intense rain they've been getting down there. I've caught some on bass lures before by boat docks, but thinking about targeting the laydowns and brushpiles most likely. Saturday and Sunday are the days of the bass tourney and I'm looking forward to reporting on that.
