I'm in need of Lk. Cumberland fishing/lodging info. As a group we fish lk Norfork Ak. mid March for the last 8 years. We have a comfort level as we have learned ares to fish and do well.

We've been kicking around the idea of trying lk Cumberland but, we are leary as we have not fished the massive body of water.

If anyone has fished Cumberland in late March i would appreciate any info you may provide. We will target stripers conditions allowing and fish for other species.

I've been there a few times. It's not that intimidating if you pick one section at a time. Plenty of great guide services in the area. Tim Tarter comes to mind. We stayed at Jamestown Resort which was really nice but may not be near the action in the spring. The spring fish should be upriver opposite the dam. Plenty of big fish there. Don't overlook fishing below the dam too.

Are you used to fishing deep water? I mean really deep. There is a gas dock there attached to the shore. The water under the dock where I was getting gas was 180 feet deep. From the main body of the lake, we had to go 10 miles up a creek arm before the water was less than 100 feet in the middle of the arm. If you are within casting distance of the shore the water will be easily 60 feet deep or more. The water levels can change drastically over a short period of time. I've seen entire good size trees full of leaves entirely under water.
It can be an entirely different type of fishing than most guys are used to.

We fished the 55-75 ft breaks using 1 1/2 oz slip sinkers and a live shad impaled on a large kahle hook. Caught the shad using a cast net at the back end of coves. Used balloons to float two behind the boat (still down 55-75) and four more rods straight off the side. Using electronics we looked for the baitfish and then set our lines to run just below. Stop and go with the electric at slow speed.We were there several times in the fall and the fish are near the dam. In the spring you should be way back in the creek coves (Caney Fork, Wolf Creek).

Thanx for the reply. I'm experienced in fishing deepwater resovoirs. I'm looking for lodging and shallow water/ creek ares relative to late March fishing. I really dont want to dtive 50 miles to a boat launch. I'd like to find lodging that will limit my travel time on the water. We will be targeting stripers.

Try the Grider Hill Dock and Marina. I was there a few years back and experienced great Striper fishing. They had everything right there,launch, restaurant, lodging, bait shop etc. My largest Striper of that trip was 35.5. We fished as described earlier using live bait rigs under floats and dead sticking off the side of the boat. Good luck!
