Has anyone gone out with him? Did you have a good experience? Any comments appreciated. Thanks, Mops

never been out with him but have exchanged a few phone calls and some emails. very friendly guy who knows the game. he absolutely destroyed the spring lakers and summer kings.

him and haataja are consistently putting fish in the boat. they run the show up north. no one else comes close to their success.

Mops,
Try giving Augie a call, he used to talk to Ben pretty regularly.
I can pm you Augie's new cell number in WI if you want, just let me know.

I can tell you Ben is the real deal. Since hiring him twice my catches for musky and lake trout have gone way up.

I first hired Ben last Nov. about this time. We got 3 musky that day. Since them I have only musky fished 4 day trips and have 6 fish in the boat (biggest 47"), in large part due to what I learned from him.

This past March I hired him to fish for lakers. We got 16 fish in the boat (three guys). Went out twice after that, got 16 fish myself on 1 trip and 4 on another. This was 100% due to what I learned from Ben. Biggest on my solo trips was 35, with a 33, 32, 30 etc. Can't wait for the season to start next month.

The big musky and lake trout are both In-Fisherman Master Angler fish, which are not easy to get. Truly big fish.

Plus it's a great time in his boat. I've fished with a number of guides over the years and he's at the top. Sorry to sound like a commercial but that's my experience with him.

Thanks for the response. I've been out with plenty of guides, and was looking for a positive report. Thanks for the input, and I'll let you know how we do. Mops

Mark- I've never fished with him but we have talked on occassion. He's a good guy but most importantly a top fisherman in this area. You should learn a lot like the other guys have stated. Have fun and stick a pig.

seen him out last week and his boat caught at least one. pretty sweet looking boat. looks like he use to be pretty open on the site, nice updated fishing reports. not sure if he's posted since but good for him if he hasn't!! went to pewaukee for the first time a few weeks ago and have been there twice since. successful each time but i couldn't believe the amount of boats...i've never seen that many people on one lake, so close together just musky fishing...not one boat was doing anything else...most weren't even casting. and how ignorant some people are. for the most part everybody respected each others space but we were always within casting distance. there are always a few in the crowd though..if it was later in the day and we had a few more beers in us, it could of got interesting at the ramp. so be ready to enjoy yourself and laugh at situations like that. anyway, not to take anything away from Ben but if you have a boat, i don't see why you would need a guide at pewaukee. it was like perch fishing on lake michigan when the bite is on...expect with 12+ inch suckers instead of minnows. finding big suckers was a challenge though. if i were to take out Ben, I would go to a different lake in the area. he seems to do well at a number of lakes up there.

Thanks, we are going out with him next Monday. We aren't going for musky, we are going out on LM for Browns and Steelhead. It's easier this way, granted more expensive, but with my brother living in Miami when he comes up its all around easier to go out with a guide. Plus I'm sure we will learn a few things, and hopefuly catch a few fish while we are at it. I'll report after. Mops

We went out, and had 3 weather patterns in one day. It was 60ish when we started, then we got poured on, then the wind changed and the fogged rolled in. We tried hard with little success. 1 medium brown, about a 32" northern, and a small steelhead. We trolled, jigged, threw cranks, spawn, just about everything. Nice guy, I would go out with him again. He really tried to get us hooked up, but when they're not biting there is not much you can do. Until next time. Mops
