My Brother-in-Law's, Son-in-Law's friend flies helicopters in South Texas, These pictures were taken this past week near the JFK Causeway Bridge in Corpus Christi. Now that's a school of some powerful fish. If you've never battled a Redfish, you're really missing out on some fun. A 10 pound Red, puts a 20 pound King to shame for brute strength.

Awesome photos and what a site to see. Normally Reds are near shore and don't venture
out on the open water. How did these guys know they were Reds?

I have caught many Redfish in the Clearwater/St. Pete area. Very nice
fish to catch. I have caught many of them that were over 40". I would have to say though,
Kings are a ferocious fish and with the torpedo-like bodies and sheer strength, they are one of
the Kings in the ocean.

I hooked a 50 lb King/Wahoo and it took me like a half hour to bring in.
:shock :shock

Bill,

Those pictures were taken near the JFK Causeway Bridge which spans the waterway between South Padre Island and the main land so there are relatively close to shore. You can see the beach in the first picture. I have no idea how to copy a link from a Google map search but if you Google map search Flour Bluff, TX, you'll see the bridge I am talking about.

While I wasn't there to verify they are Reds, I'm pretty sure these guys know a school of feeding Reds when they see them. The only other fish that schools like that down there is Mullet, and those are not Mullet. Didn't claim they were the king of all salt water fish, just trying to give people an idea of their strength.

Think that black spot at around 3 o'clock is a "Black Fish"? Sub? Shark? Oil well? or just a Helicopter swimming under water? Just curious-

My college roommate used to live in Corpus. Looking back, too bad we had other things besides fishing on our mind when we went down there for spring break! Nice photos.

Yes, sometimes there are things on Padre Island that can deter one from fishing.
