I will be going to Orlando in Jan. I am looking for some ideas for a day of fishing.
What to target that time of year?
Kid friendly trips? I have three. 8 , 10 & 14.
Charters that you would recommend?
Shore fishing possibilities?
Thanks
Brian

I was down in Daytona area for 2 weeks this past January. I fished off a party boat in ponce inlet which was 5 minutes from where I was staying and the fishing wasn't all that exciting. Smaller reef fish mostly. It was also a 2 hour ride out to these fish. 2 days later I made the drive down to Jupitor Inlet down by fort lauderdale and it was AWSOME. a half day on a party boat was $45. the ride out was only 1/2 hour which is much better than ponce inlet. I went in the morning and liked it so much I ended up going again in the afternoon. The 2 main fish we caught was bonitas (fun to catch but not for eating) and kings. I caught at least 8-10 kings and 15+ bonitas on each trip. Well worth the drive. I have also fished the gulf side outa tampa and unless you are willing to make a 15+ hour trip the fishing is horrible. Just small reef fish.

Brian,
Are y staying at Disney? There are guides that fish there and pick you up at the dock. My buddy at work said it was a blast with some nice Bass up to 10lbs and huge Gils. Okeechobee should also be pre spawn and the golf courses can be dynamite. Dont overlook the St. Johns river but its north of where you will be but very good fishing. Have fun on whatever you decide.

do you want fresh or saltwater fishing? keep in mind the time span that your down there and any closed seasons, I know last year they closed everything because of that cold snap, not sure if that is still going to be in effect. I have gone on charters out of Steinhatchie and Cape Coral/Fort Meyers areas. There are a ton of fresh water lakes around. Crystal River area has some powerplant (warmwater discharge) fishing Reds, and trout. I could find out the guide for this if your interested.

Get in touch with Jay. He may show you a home while you're down there. :D

going to be down there in early january too. was looking into the same thing. i ran across one of the fishing excursions through disney and it was expensive and looked like they had you on a pontoon boat with a lady that looked like she could be working at the little red schoolhouse or something...jumping in and taking the hooks out of the bass' mouth, making sure a 2lb bass is netted, etc., seemed kind of annoying. didn't really strike me as the fishing guide type. saw a few fishing guides at the lakes in the area that are less price for more time out. any other recommendations on the disney guides? not sure how the operation works. that would be the most convenient for me but don't really want to fish out of a pontoon with mickey mouse.
