This morning I went out to Sag to see if I could find any trout. No trout but I caught a baby northern on a minnow spinner. He was about 10 inches and took off strong when I released him. Didn't know there were northern in Sag East. Does anyone know if they stock them there?

Thanks

Clipper I know that there are still some nice fish coming out of the West Branch in Carol Stream, not a ton of them but better size.

are you talking about sag quarries in the lockport/willowsprings/palos area? if so, i know of northerns for sure in the west quarry.. there are a few spots they usually bit in, primarily the west side of the quarry. i hadn't heard of any in the east though.

Sure it wasn't some kind of Pickeral? They have been known to be in Sag East (look for black line below the eye). I don't think they ever stocked Northerns in Sag Quarries, but I can ask.

Yes, it was the same quary. It was Sag east in Lemont on Archer and 83. As for the fish being a pickeral, I'm not sure. I didn't notice a black line under the eye.

The poop from the CCFP biologist:

the pike that were caught at SQE were most likely grass pike. If you look at a grass pike they look like they have an upside down black triangle under their eye, like a tear drop. I say they were grass pike because I know they are in there and due to this: Last stocking of northern Pike in SQE & SQW
SQE:year 1955, # 20, Size Breeder
SQW: year 1977, #700 lbs., Size 3.5 lbs. average

Special thanks to Scott Bullard for the information!
