hi everybody, thanks for reading this post. first of all i just wanted to say ive been checking out this site for a year or so now and i just became a member, so this is my first post, and sadly its not a nice one. about a week ago i had a little spare time and decided to do a little bassin at maple lake lake and i came across this..... ... maple lake is being used as a garbage dump now? or is cook county soooooo broke that they cant afford to have garbage trucks pick up trash? also... im suggesting that maybe the boat/ bait shack stop selling bait and stuff until people learn how to throw away their trash in the right place instead of the trees and rocks etc. hopefully the pic showed up like i said this is my first time posting so please forgive me if it didnt show up. as far as the bite?... zilch.

Hi Swampus, welcome to the site. No pics came through. There's a lot of littering going on everywhere, the "laked" forest preserve areas have always seemed to be worse. If Crook County is making any money selling bait, etc, they won't stop. From when I was a kid, my kids and my grandkids now, we do some litter patrol every time we go out. It's a shame those who make the mess do so, but nobody is stopping them. As far as the zilch bite, don't be discouraged. Most everyone gets "skunked" now and again. (it still beats work!)

Trash talk, pun intended, is a never ending discussion here. I have reported such situations to proper authorities, called in plate numbers, confronted face to face those responsible, brought bags to clean up and etc. Unfortunately it doesn't stop it from happening. But doesn't mean I won't stop my part in helping.
Have you ever cleaned up the house just to have guest come over? What about play dates with the kids? It doesn't take much time for the house, room, or yard to look like an episode of hoarders. My point being people, not the parks and city, need to pick up after themselves. It is a pain staking project to clean up after people, and people know how to wreck a situation in minutes.
You can't punish every one for the few.
A few weeks ago I was bicycling the lake front and saw some one toss garbage purposefully next to a city trash can. Sad really.
Welcome to the site, the cold front has kicked a few of us in the "captain's corner". Soon the patterns will change and the fish will bite once again.

Welcome to the site Swampus. Glad you posted. Sorry your first post had to deal with this disgusting and unfortunately often occuring problem. The folks on this site are pretty much all good about cleaning up their areas when they fish. You can't post images that are stored on other sites such as the photobucket not approved for posting pictures one you tried. Check out the video that Bubbalouie suggested and you'll be good to go. Even though I think there's a certain number of posts you have to make in order to post pics. You know... You gotta earn your bones. Welcome again

at the begining of the year this lake was very clean, throughout the course of the summer it seemed to be getting worse every day. i saw people from cook county cleaning up but they seemed to be blind cause when they left it looked the same to me.

Unfortunately I gave up on all of that long ago. Generally, if it's easy access I no longer fish it. That's a big reason I've taken to wading; to get away from the crowds. The improved fishing doesn't hurt either.
