6th in line when it opened at 6:57am. Weather looked good, you could feel the anticipation. But then, not. Maliboo and I walked all the way around it, working every open spot we could find, which wasn't many. Shore access is extremely limited due to overgrowth, and the entire north shore is inaccessible due to the stabilization work and replanting. Very weedy, but some clear shots to deeper water were open. Things were tough all over, with most anglers getting skunked. I had 2 follows, including one very nice northern or muskie that finally turned down a black on silver X-Rap. Maliboo hooked and lost several, landing a smaller one, and I understand bassedhard caught a 22" muskie. We heard about a northern being caught, and later heard of several smaller bass as well. Saw 1 smallish cat caught on a minnow, but even the FP guys agreed it was a real bad day for opening at Mallard.

Boats really are carry-in only, and it's a long carry from the lot. Pack light!

Day two was even worse. At least for me. I stayed in one spot for 3 hours using a vast array of lures but got no action at all. The only action I saw was a couple guys on a toy bass boat catch 3 bass by fishing areas you can't reach from shore.

I fished for 4 hours Sunday, tough sky caught a 25in musky and a 16 in bass in a boat. Looks like there is not much shore access to fish from anymore. High water and overgrown cat tails.
