Does anyone have any info on Wampum lake over there in Thorton,Il. I used to get some huge largemouth wading with top water lures out there?

I was out there 2 weeks ago and the bite was pretty good,caught 7 largemouth however none over 13 inches.They also put weedkiller in the lake with signs posted about not consuming any fish for awhile.I am a catch and release fisherman so that doesn't bother me.I too like yourself,used to wade the lake but have heard they have been enforcing the no wading rule.Bring your longest casting combo and try tossing texas rigged worms,as the weedgrowth is quite heavy,and even the little ones have been diving into the weeds when hooked.Topwaters like spooks and buzzbaits are worth throwing under low light conditions,not sure where the big ones are hanging right now,but believe the lake is still holding 'em.Good luck!

Thanks for the info Jake. It's been a couple years since I've been there.I'm not sure if it was always posted no wading ,but I have never herd of it really being enforced.I'am going to try to get out there soon!

I have lived near the lake for over 30 years and can NOT remember a time when there was not a no wading sign hear the well pump.

I quit trying to fish it because you would need a rifle to get your bait out to the deep water

Took a bicycle ride over to Wampum early yesterday morning and I saw no shortage of weeds in the water.
