Not really sure on what you guys want your borders to be so throw out some lakes south of DuPage County line and no further east of IL/IN border. We will then take a poll on it.

Wolf lake is part of Powers Recreational Area. It has plenty of parking. That pike was caught less than 100 feet from the parking lot. Because it is a Cook County preserve there is a two line limit on the Illinois side. I don't have an ATV so my buddy and I never fished too far from shore. The lake isn't deep and has a lot of weeds in the summer. There are better lakes that is certain. But this is the closest southside lake for city dwellers that I could think of. But it is probably not worth the trip for guys driving all the way from Gurnee or similar distances.

Karl,
Gotta love pulling cats from down under!
I'd drive all night to catch gills, perch, walleye, bass, cats, bullhead. That's ice fishing!

I agree with you FishnFacts. I will drive all night and then some for goos fishing.

Tampier in the winter? Dude, let me go with you next time. Have been there a few times and didn't catch a thing.

HI Gang!
Wolf lake has tons of white fish too. They are medium to large and age good eating. If you go on the indiana side its $15 to park there. I don't know how much it is on IL side? Fun lake to fish on and it has alot of fish too of all species.

i've only heard of 1 sturgeon caught in wolf lake a few years ago and it had a wisconsin tag so it traveled there up the indian creek from LM and that was when the salmon and trout used to move in there heavy its harder for fish to get up the creek now

Wow that would have been something. Anyone know any good crappie spots on Wolf? All we did when we went there is set up tip ups along a weed "finger" near the flag pole in the main part of the lake just off the shore. We managed a few small pike and a couple gills.

I also read that the lake does not ice up some years and has open water all winter. Just wondering about safety in regards to driving a snow machine onto the lake.

Also the fishing is supposed to be better over on the Indiana side? Any thoughts?

The Indiana side is stocked with a few thousand 5"-7" walleye every year, and has some GREAT ice fishing opportunities in both the main lake, as well as the "corn channel."
